hmmm
try and making ure own BG's by smudging and stuff, cos the fractal bg doesnt work all that well with the render, also, feathering (IMO) looks ugly :P - but like i said, thats only wat i think ;)
as a whole, u are improving yes, but try and spend more time on ure sigs
