I've had the same argument countless times, saying "nah I'm not an atheist because that's still a belief" or whatever, and so have a lot of other people (including yourself apparently).
Anyway, after looking into it further, I've come to the realization that we're all wrong, and that we are in fact, atheists. (Though I hate to say it, because I don't think everything should have to be labeled in such a way)
A belief that something doesn't exist is also just a disbelief, and the two definitions of the word support that:
So, while the first definition makes it sort of a "belief" like a religion, the second shows that the word is also used for someone who simply does not believe in god (or supreme being).1. the doctrine or belief that there is no god.
2. disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.
Of course, that first definition being there still makes shit annoying as fuck, and could allow you to continue arguing that you're not an atheist and that you just don't believe in god, but there's really no point to it.
Not having a religion wouldn't make you agnostic (though someone who's agnostic doesn't necessarily follow a specific religion).Originally Posted by xWhite_Shadowx
Agnostic would be more along the lines of being uncertain whether there is a "higher power" (see: god) or not. Basically thinking that there may possibly be one, but aren't sure as there's no real proof.
In other words, you're a pussy and don't want to say there is no god because you're afraid you'll go to "hell" if there is one.(<<< That's a joke -_-).
