Firmware is your version of your PSP. New updates come with new software that flashes your PSP and adds stuff and takes stuff out. CFW is Custom Firware and is made by people that are smarter than Sony people and make it so you can do the following:- Play FREE games. Btw if you are new you aren't supposed to talk about this or Scuzzy and OwNeR:p will get mad...
- Play games from SNES and NES and all other systems. Emulators are used to play these games.
- Applications that sony lacks. I have a graphing calculator that I use for school on my psp. All sorts of stuff.
- AND THE BEST! Game Hacking!
Now before you get CFW all of a sudden keep in mind that you need to downgrade and then get CFW. In order to downgrade you need Pandora's Battery. Some people's firmware are small enough to downgrade a different way.
IF YOU ARE 3.51 OR LOWER YOU DON'T NEED PANDORA'S BATTERY!
But nowadays most firmwares are either a CFW or a sony official firmware over 3.52
This guide is for people needing to either make a pandora's or to find service or a basic FAQ for people with CFW already.
KEEP IN MIND that you NEED CFW to do all the COOL stuff you see here.
You might think it is too much work but trust me. IT IS WORTH IT!

How to make a pandora's battery with a PSP that has CFW---

THIS SECTION IS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE CFW ALREADY! WHICH MEANS IF YOU DONT HAVE CFW DONT EVEN BOTHER WITH THIS SECTION!

Alright this is my guide and works for slims as well. The U.P.M.S installer will pandorize your battery and turn your memory stick into a magic memory stick plus give you more than the original versions.
needs to be a memory stick 256-2gig. Not even a 128 MB can work. plus it has to be a PRO DUO. any otherrs won't work with the PSP.

I suggest reading the README in it.
Installation:
Copy UPMSInstaller to ms0:/ISO
Then run the program.
Note to the admins: The quote function aint workin right :(
So after running here are these instructions:
1. go to step 1. then install all those 3 things u see. especially the sleep fix.
2. go to step 2.
REMEMBER it is really bad for your PSP battery if you keep pandorizing it and unpandorizing it. just keep one as a pandora's and the other for normal use. That is what I do anyway.
so here we go.
Click X on "Backup battery to (Ms0: eeprom.bin)"
Then "Make Pandora's battery (service mode)"
OKAY now the last step:
go to step 3 and choose install UPMS with utilities (slowest)
the fastest is a way if you want nothing but pandora's. I recommend the slowest though cause I am sure you want to flash to 3.71 m33-2 instead of going to just 1.50 and do nothing. That sounded dumb. w/e just do the slowest and you will be more happy ;)
Now you made the battery AND memory stick!
now what you do is:
to downgrade/unbrick a PSP:
first insert the magic memory stick. then HOLD THE R TRIGGER BUTTON and insert the battery. it will go to the advance service mode of pandora's made by BRONZ3GH0ST; Nem; Hellcat; and dark_alex. Mostly BronzeGhost though.
Basically self explanatory from there.
Where to go to find pandora's battery service
This is if you don't know anyone with custom firmware.
One option is to pandorize the battery yourself but takes a little bit of steady hands and skill with opening your battery.
It is called Hard moding which slyboi has a good guide here:

Then make the magic memory stick yourself which you can do without a CFW PSP.
If you want to find someone to do it for you if you don't want to hard mod then the best places are:
http://www.craigslist.org (just search "PSP" then look for something along the lines of PSP modding or downgrading etc.)
http://www.ebay.com has a lot of service. You could even buy a set of pandora's battery and mem stick.
the datel tool battery is just the battery. does not come with a memory stick so you will still have to make the stick yourself.
My service you can PM me about. It is similar to ebay's but cheaper.
How to upgrade/downgrade a PSP with CFW
This is to downgrade ONLY IF you have CFW already.
Like if you want to go from 3.80 m33-5 down to 3.52 m33-4.
So I am excluding the OE_A's cause they suck. iMhO
Any CFW's over 3.52 m33-4 you will need at least 3.52 m33-4.
So get it.
When you are updating try to always find the "Easy installers"
If you want one and can't find em yourself PM me for the link.
Currently 3.90 m33-2 is the newest one.
To do it manually you will need to download Dark_Alex's m33 update for that CFW.
(PM me for the link if u can't find it)
Once you get the update you need the OFFICIAL sony update too.
(PM me for the link if you can't find it)
And also the Official 1.50 update along with it.
Then read the README that came with the m33 update and it will tell you what to do with the sony.
Usually it will be:- Put the UPDATE folder in your GAME folder
- Put the sony update's in your UPDATE folder
- Rename the Sony Update, 1.50, to 150PBP
- Rename the Sony Update, (The official update u need to get to), to X.XXPBP
the X.XX being what the firmware is such as 3.71
Then after that go on your PSP and go to yer game folder and start the m33 application and follow the instructions from there. (Press X basically)
