PSCS4 FTW!
its kind of cool to see someone not using the pen tool... kuz it looks like u just brushed those lines there so it gives a different effect...
u still need to practice though.. try to improve in ur erasing, kuz i can still see part of the beam where it doesn't suppose to be, try to fix the white halo too...

yeah get some beams tutorials... the guy needs to be feathered about 1-2px as well
uhm yeah :S
its kinda messy lol :P
if im honest, the easiest way of doing it would be to use the pentool - which i think u did......BUT.......u chose the wrong settings.....make sure u DONT use the free-form pentool......thats impossible to work with :P
EDIT:
saw mako's reply......
just a tip, feathering isnt the best thing to do....
IMO, it ruins the edges of the render which u want to be crisp and sharp......not soft.....its okay in some cases.....

the only reason i put "my best beam yet" is because the beam actually glows! :)

to make it glow.....double click the 'beam layer' and select outer glow and just mess with the settings :)

Did you use the soft brush dark? I think thats what he means cuz theres a little blueness around the eges of the purple.
