~Resistance: Retribution~

July 15, 2008 - At the E3 2008 Sony Press Conference, Jack Tretton unveiled news about the PSP system. Among these is a new PSP title by Sony Bend, Resistance: Retribution.
The game is a completely new game in the Resistance line. It is being design by Sony Bend, the same team that created the astounding PSP Syphon Filter titles.
The trailer shown at the conference presented some of the gameplay for the third-person action shooter. The game appears to be set between the first and second games, and features levels that appear to be France.

There were familiar weapons and shields from the first game, and most of the enemies look similar too, along with some that were shown in the Resistance 2 trailer.
We haven't had a chance to play the game yet, but thanks to the official press release about the game, we have learned some details that make us extremely excited to take on this chapter of war. For one thing, the game uses the third generation of Bend Studio's PSP engine, allowing for more populated areas and more detailed character models than any one of the system's previously impressive games. The engine uses high-resolution effects and a new Memory Buffer system used to create bigger gameplay worlds. ALso impressive for tech hounds and gamers of all kinds is the inclusion of local and online multiplayer -- it wouldn't be Resistance without online play, and the PSP version offers 8-player matches with modes that include Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation.
Brand new Resistance weapons will be revealed in this PSP game, including weapons merging alien and hybrid technology such as the BM001 Razor and the Longbow 1S-1K :One shot, one kill" sniper rifle. Also returning are favorites such as the Auger, Carbine and LAARK. All of this factors into a brand new third-person gameplay system with a unique targetting system built for the PSP. Gamers can expect many familiar enemies (such as the including the Titan, Slipskull, Hybrids and Leapers) and there are also new enemies like the Hag and Cloven.
The official storyline of Resistance: Retribution is as such:
Set in the weeks after Resistance: Fall of Man, Retribution follows the story of former British Marine James Grayson. After a personal tragedy – he is forced to kill his own brother inside a Chimeran conversion center – Grayson goes on a vendetta to destroy every conversion center he can find. Eventually Grayson learns that his efforts have been futile ... in Western Europe the Chimera have evolved a new method of converting humans to aliens. The European resistance – the Maquis – enlist Grayson's help, and he joins Cartwright and Parker in Operation Overstrike. The war to retake the European continent has begun.
Resistance: Retribution is set to release in Spring 2009.
