...Stupid Vista
Okay well here's my problem..
I need to update/patch my current version of Vista. (Yes it's legit)
The reason I need to do this, is because I would like to install certain programs (mainly anti-virus) and they require certain updates.
One of the updates I require is the Windows6.0-KB929547-v2-x86.msu
Which would open with Windows Update Standalone Installer
The problem, is that for any update I try to do I get the following error ~
Installer encountered an error: 0x80070422
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
has no enabled devices associated with it.
So I did some research on this error, and found that I had to access the "services" and change some stuff if it wasn't correct.
To do so, go to RUN >> Services, right click and run as administrator...
So this is what I found needed to be done.
Background Intelligent Transfer Service - Set to MANUAL and start.
Windows Modules Installer - Set to MANUAL and start.
Windows Update (wuauserv) - Set to AUTOMATIC and start.
-----------------------------------------------------------
So the first two I did, no trouble, but whenever I tried to fix the settings for Windows Update, it would automatically switch to DISABLED, and Stop running.
At one point by some miracle, I clicked on the update and it worked. It then went to say I wasn't running a genuine version of Vista (which I am..) and I had just finished running a check, confirming that I was...
But now I can't get the Windows Update setting back to where it Needs to be..
So can someone help me get the proper setting to allow updates, or find an alternate way to install these...
